Sonoma State University, nestled an hour north of San Francisco in the heart of California's wine country, was founded in 1961. Originally a teacher education center for the North Bay, Sonoma State University is now a liberal arts and sciences university serving roughly 9,500 students.

Within Sonoma State University, there are six schools: Arts and Humanities, Business and Economics, Education, Extended and International Education, Social Science, and Science and Technology. Class sizes average fewer than 50 students, and relationships between staff and faculty and the students they serve are collaborative in nature. Among the six schools, undergraduates have access to 46 majors and 47 minors. Graduate students can choose between 15 degree programs.  Plus, Sonoma State University offers one of the only Wine Business Institutes in the United States.

The campus is also home to the Sonoma Film Institute, the Sonoma State University Center for Performing Arts, the Sonoma State University Library Art Gallery and a plethora of athletic programs with their own sporting events. Sonoma State University's Green Music Center's most noted venue, Weill Hall, hosts the Santa Rose Symphony, San Francisco Symphony and other performances through the school's music department. With so many year-round activities throughout campus, there's always something to do!
